La etapa 5 del Hellas Rally volvió a las especiales de bucle más tradicionales después de la parte "maratón" de la carrera. Se trataba de un recorrido de 250 km que empezaba y terminaba en el vivac de Karpenisi, pasando por el lago Smokovo.

Tarrés comenzó el día segundo en la clasificación general, a menos de ocho minutos del líder de la general, sabiendo que la quinta etapa podría ser vital para decidir el desenlace de la carrera, ya que el domingo sólo quedaba la Etapa 6, de 120 km.

La lluvia torrencial complicó aún más una especial ya de por sí difícil debido al barro profundo y a las rocas resbaladizas, pero Tarrés luchó contra todo a bordo de su Ténéré 700 World Raid bicilíndrica equipada con GYTR. El andorrano no falló en ningún momento en su navegación y revalidó sus podios consecutivos en las dos etapas anteriores con otro magnífico pilotaje.

Se ha mantenido en contacto con sus rivales con motos monocilíndricas de 450cc durante toda la especial, a pesar de que las difíciles condiciones se adaptaban mejor a sus motos, antes de terminar la etapa quinto en la categoría de motos.

El piloto de 29 años también se adjudicó la victoria en la categoría M6 (motos multicilíndricas de 650cc a 1300cc) por tercera etapa consecutiva, terminando la especial en tres horas, 23 minutos y 35,36 segundos, a sólo ocho minutos y 8,39 segundos del ganador de la etapa.

Tras completar más de 1.330 km, Tarrés es ahora tercero en la clasificación general de Moto, con un tiempo total de diecinueve horas, 49 minutos y 34,68 segundos, a sólo ocho minutos y 43,57 segundos del líder de la general a falta de una etapa, y con una ventaja de casi 40 minutos sobre su rival más cercano en lo alto de la clasificación de la categoría M6.

La última etapa del Rally Hellas 2023 es un bucle corto de 120 km, desde el vivac hasta Gardiki y vuelta, y con menos de nueve minutos de diferencia entre los tres primeros pilotos de la categoría Moto, todo está por decidir en la batalla por la victoria.

Pol Tarrés: "Ha sido otro buen día para nosotros, ya que era importante no dejar que mis rivales me abrieran hueco, y también ha sido duro. Al principio había mucho barro profundo, lo que dificultaba el empuje, y ha sido complicado mantener el ritmo de las motos de 450cc. A medida que avanzaba la etapa, encontré mi ritmo y empecé a sentirme más seguro, y estaba contento con mi navegación. Terminar quinto hoy ha sido estupendo, ya que sólo me separaban unos segundos de los pilotos que me precedían en la general, y con sólo 120 km por delante, podemos luchar por el podio en la última etapa. Ahora tenemos que seguir concentrados y terminar el rally de la forma más fuerte posible".
