La cuarta etapa del Morocco Desert Challenge (MDC) era la primera etapa en bucle del rally, con 275 km de especial que empezaban y terminaban en el vivac de Foum Zguid. El calor abrasador y las tormentas de arena jugaron un papel importante, además de que la etapa vio a los competidores entrar en las dunas de Erg Chegaga por primera vez al concluir el cuarto día de ocho.

Tarrés lleva una racha increíble en Marruecos. El andorrano fue tercero en el primer prólogo y cuarto en la segunda etapa. El piloto de 29 años volvió a subir al podio en la tercera etapa del martes, y el miércoles volvió a hacer lo propio.

Atravesando los valles y los senderos rocosos con su Teneré 700 World Raid, el ex piloto de Enduro aprovechó al máximo su tiempo en las dunas a pesar de que muchas de ellas estaban rotas. Esto puede ser complicado para los participantes, ya que significa que hay una caída en picado al otro lado de una cresta ciega, y puede provocar un desastre, pero Tarrés estuvo a la altura del desafío. Iba en cabeza justo después del ecuador de la etapa y apretó hasta el final para asegurarse el tercer puesto con un tiempo de tres horas, 59 minutos y dos segundos, a sólo cinco minutos y nueve segundos del ganador de la etapa.

Tras haber superado las cuatro primeras jornadas del MDC, el tercer podio de Tarrés en el rally le permite adelantar a su compañero de equipo y situarse tercero en la general con un tiempo total de 14 horas, 26 minutos y 58 segundos, y ahora lidera la categoría Big Bike.

La Etapa 5, de 335 km, presenta un enlace de 57,2 km y tiene un poco de todo, con algunas secciones de navegación desafiantes al principio, una vuelta a las dunas de Erg Chegaga, senderos rocosos, hierba de camello y algunas secciones rápidas en el lago seco de Iriki, antes de terminar en el vivac de M'hamid.

Pol Tarrés: “Me siento bien. Ha sido otro buen día, y nuestro plan es seguir aprendiendo y empujando donde podamos. No estoy pensando en la posición general, ya que puede cambiar cada día, así que sólo me centro en cada etapa y en adquirir la mayor experiencia posible con el roadbook y recopilar información para la moto. La etapa de hoy ha sido dura, pero siempre me gusta pilotar en las dunas, y ha sido muy divertido porque me siento como en casa en ellas. Muchas de las dunas estaban rotas, lo que hace que sea más difícil, ya que no juega a favor de los puntos fuertes de nuestra Ténéré 700 World Raid, pero sinceramente, la moto era increíble y era muy divertido de pilotar. Todavía queda mucho rally, y mañana tenemos más dunas, así que ya estoy deseando que llegue la Etapa 5".
